On Friday, August 1st, I had the opportunity to tour two single-family homes currently on the market:

🏡 6 Brewer Way, Hingham

Asking Price: $2,295,000
So, which would you rather call home?
The South Boston single-family asking $2.4M, or the South Shore single-family asking $2.3M?
According to Google Maps, these two addresses are only about 10 miles apart. On a show like Love It or List It, that might seem like no big deal. But if you grew up in the Boston area, you know there’s a world of difference between Hingham and South Boston.
Hingham is a suburb of Boston.
South Boston is a neighborhood within the city.
There’s a strong historical connection between the two. In the '70s and '80s, many families left Boston for towns like Hingham. Years later, their children and grandchildren rediscovered South Boston and moved back—probably after attending BC and falling in love with city life.
If you placed 6 Brewer Way and 527 E 8th St side by side, most buyers would likely choose Brewer Way. It’s a larger home, offering 5,207 sq ft of living space on nearly a full acre of land.
But that’s a lot of house to maintain!
Maybe the compact efficiency of 2,762 sq ft at 527 E 8th St is more appealing. At Brewer Way, you’ll need a landscaping crew. At E 8th St, you can wrap up yard work in 30 minutes or less.
Of course, these homes aren’t next door to each other. So maybe you work in downtown Boston and love the idea of walking to the office—rather than spending hours commuting.
Or maybe you prefer the quiet of the suburbs over the energy of city life.

✅ South Boston has outstanding public transportation.
Me? I’m heading to Hingham.
My wife and kids? They choose South Boston every time!
In this comparison, 6 Brewer Way offers more space and similar condition for slightly less money. But in every home search, location is a key motivator—and that decision always comes down to personal preference.
